Episode 1: What is a Money Mindset?

“I genuinely believe money is so much more than just numbers in your bank account, it's also the way that you relate to those numbers in your bank account, the way that you relate to money, the way that you relate to yourself.”

When I first talk with my clients about money mindset or their relationship with money, most of them have no idea what I am talking about. Most of us aren’t even aware we have a money mindset or a relationship with money. Instead we simply believe the world works in a very specific way with money.

You may believe that making money is hard. You don’t have enough money. Rich people are tacky. It’s rude to talk about money. The list goes on.

Depending on who you are, which generation you were born, where you were raised and by whom you will likely have different thoughts about money, how it should be used, and what is “right” and what is “wrong” in all aspects of money. Most of your foundational beliefs about money and wealth were developed at a young age, however, they are continuously being shaped over time through your experiences.

In the first ever Holistic Money Podcast Episode, you are going to learn what money beliefs are, how to identify your personal money beliefs and how these beliefs are creating your results. Enjoy!

Notable Quotes

  • That's the genesis for my business: I believe money is not just about numbers in your bank accounts; it's not just about retirement calculators and investment returns; money is also an avenue for personal and spiritual growth. It is a way to understand yourself, know yourself more deeply, love yourself, and grow in your life.

  • Money is so much more than just numbers in your bank account; it's also how you relate to those numbers in your bank account, how you relate to money, and how you relate to yourself.

  • The ripple effect of the growth that you're going to experience with money will extend much further than your net worth or the amount of money you have in your bank accounts. It will impact your whole life, relationships, sense of security, and confidence.

  • Your money mindset is the narratives running through your head; it's the stories that you tell yourself, the predictions for your future, and the way that you think about your past. All of that makes up your money mindset.

  • Your money mindset was also developed from your experiences with money and your family and how your family talked about money and engaged with money. It informs the way that you think and feel about money today.

  • It doesn't matter if you are in six figures of debt or a multi-millionaire; there is always an opportunity to up-level and take on an expansive money mindset to get you to that next level.

  • Your personal growth is your financial growth, and it feels good to grow. It may not always be easy, it may be hard, and it may require you to make new decisions to develop new thinking for yourself, but ultimately, that result will feel really good.
